Humqadam-SCRP is promoting quality learning outcomes with provision of school infrastructure across Khyber Pakhunkhwa (KP) and Punjab Provinces in Pakistan. The school is a significant personal and social environment in the lives of its students. By ensuring high standards of construction, Humqadam-SCRP is fostering a conducive learning environment that is physically safe, psychologically enabling and emotionally secure.

Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHS) 124 RB is located in Tehsil Chak Jhumra in District Faisalabad, Punjab Province. Before Humqadam interventions, the school of almost 450 students did not have adequate infrastructure to cater to the students’ needs. With eight classrooms, students were often forced to study in cramped classrooms lacking most of the basic amenities including poor lighting and no ventilation.

“I faced immense difficulties to concentrate on the lessons because of multi-grade learning but with additional classrooms the teacher takes only one class in one classroom. The neat and clean classrooms have enhanced our educational experience” said Zoha- a grade 10 student at GGHS 124 RB.

Humqadam-SCRP adopted the school in December 2017 and in five months’ time constructed three additional classrooms lowering the student classroom ratio from 56:1. to 40:1- an internationally recognised ideal classroom size. The new school infrastructure provides enabling environment and students and teachers are taking keen interest in education than ever before.

“I love my school and I can’t imagine life without it. I often tell my friends in the neighborhood about the new school building and how comfortable it is to study in the new classrooms” says Laiba-a grade 8 student at GGHS 124 RB.

Improved school infrastructure at GGHS 124 RB with renewed spaces is making it possible for girls from humble backgrounds to study in a safe and secure learning environment, and in tandem, improves learning outcomes. While positively impacting the educational performance, the new school building has piqued the community’s interest as enrolment numbers have risen from 400 to 460 in five months’ time.

The new school building has become a major attraction among community members. Setting an example of a child friendly public school, GGHS 124 RB has gathered enough good repute to have parents from far flung areas to come to the school to enrol their children in GGHS 124 RB.

“Before Humqadam-SCRP interventions, the capacity of students to learn was undermined due to poor school infrastructure. The new school building is child-friendly and encourages both teachers and students in positive educational attainments” remarked Ms. Hina Sarfaraz – School Principal GGHS 124 RB.

Humqadam-SCRP is reaching out to children in the most remote areas of Pakistan. Through improved school infrastructure, Humqadam-SCRP has played an essential role positively in fostering a child friendly learning environment in public schools. So far, 114 schools have been handed over to the school management in district Faisalabad (as of Aug 2018). Whereas, Humqadam is currently active in 113 schools to positively impact educational attainments.
